“A Sacred Stage & I F**ked Up” – Elle King Finally Breaks The Silence On Her Drunken Dolly Parton Tribute

Elle King is still trying to move past her drunken Dolly Parton tribute back in March.

In case you need a refresher, just days after King appeared to be inebriated as she hosted Nashville’s New Years Eve Bash, the “Ex’s and Oh’s” singer angered a lot of country fans when she disrespected the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman and Dolly Parton during an Opry Goes Dolly tribute.

King slurred her speech as she stood in front of the crowd at Ryman Auditorium, and barely got through a performance of Dolly Parton’s “Marry Me.” She shouted a very tasteful, “I don’t give a sh*t” right in the middle of the song, which just in case you weren’t familiar with the tune, is not a part of the chorus:

On the Dear Chelsea podcast this past week, King finally broke her silence on the unfortunate event in an interview with comedian Chelsea Handler. Elle first made it clear that she wasn’t even supposed to be a headliner that night, and acted as a fill in for someone who had dropped out.

King detailed that she was going through some “really heavy” stuff during that time, and didn’t sugarcoat anything when she addressed what she did:

“I not only cussed on stage, hammered at the Grand Ole Opry (event), but it was Dolly Parton’s birthday, and it was the Opry doing a Dolly Parton tribute.”

The artist went on to describe her mental state during that time, and why she had taken “one too many” shots leading up to her time on stage. King’s intoxication led her to go on a drunken tirade in the midst of her performance, even calling out the audience that was there and telling them they wouldn’t get their money back.

While there was a lot of criticism sent her way afterwards, King conceded that her actions deserved to be met with accountability, even though she still can’t recollect a lot of that night:

“That day was a really big day dealing with what I was going through and that I’m still going through. And I suffer from severe PTSD; I take one shot too many, and I’m just not there in my body, I’m not there. I don’t remember it. All I remember – I don’t even remember what I said. I know now what I said.”

Following the disastrous show, King canceled a lot of her tour dates to ensure she could gfet things straightened out. She even made sure to get connected with Dolly Parton to apologize, and like the class act that she is, Parton chose to forgive King.

And to close out the subject during the interview with Chelsea Handler, Elle King offered up an apology to anyone else that was still looking for one:

“Maybe I shouldn’t have f**king been drinking… This is a sacred stage and I f**ked up. So, for all the people who are asking for an apology from me, hey, if you were there that night and I didn’t get a chance to say I’m sorry to you, I apologize.”
