One step closer to full country Post Malone.
Fresh off the release of “I Had Some Help”, a duet with Morgan Wallen that debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and broke the one day Spotify streaming record, Post is ready to keep the fun coming.
A full country music album has been long in the works for Post. His first ever gig was playing country songs in an Italian restaurant and he’s covered a number of songs over the years, most notably Sturgill Simpson’s “You Can Have The Crown” and Brad Paisley’s “I’m Gonna Miss Her”, but the single with Morgan Wallen marked his first official venture into the genre.
We know a little bit about what to expect on the album, including that an unreleased Parker McCollum tune called “Left Me In Your Mind” might be involved and we can expect the steel-soaked “Never Love You Again” that he played at the ACMs, but just today he posted another teaser to social media, this one a snippet of a song with Blake Shelton.
Admittedly, this one sounds a like bit like a classic bro-country “I love drinking beer” song but I guess we’ll take it and just from this little bit I’d bet it’s going to be on repeat for a whole lot of people this summer.
“Somebody pour me a drink
Somebody bum me a smoke
I’m about to get on a buzz
I’m about to get on a roll
I’ve been breaking my back
Just keeping up with the Jones
Ya’ll know what I need
Ya’ll know how it goes”
Yeah, not exactly my cup of tea, but hey, it gets us one step closer to hearing what this whole project is going to sound like, so that’s a positive.
Fingers crossed there’s a little bit more Sturgill influence on somewhere on this project because I’ll be downright disappointed if not.
