Chances are you’ve already heard, but in case you’re just waking up from a coma in the past 24 hours, former President Donald Trump was found guilty in New York City yesterday on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to alleged hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 campaign.
The internet erupted after the announcement that the former president, and current candidate, is now a convicted felon, and Trump’s fundraising website even crashed from the flood of donations from his supporters outraged about the verdict.
Of course I’m not here to offer political commentary or report news on world events, but when it’s country music related, well that’s what we do.
Chances are most country artists will stay silent on the verdict. But there are a few in the industry who aren’t shy about sharing their political beliefs, including Jason Aldean and his wife, Brittany.
The two have been outspoken in their support for President Trump, and have ruffled feathers in the past for their political stances. But that’s never stopped them from speaking up, so it’s no surprise that they were among the first artists to offer their support for Trump after the guilty verdict was announced.
Aldean posted a picture of an upside down American flag (which is used to symbolize times of distress) on his Instagram, with a caption calling it a “scary time in our country.”
“Scary times in our country right now, man. When a former POTUS gets treated like this by our justice system, what does that mean for the rest of us??? If there was ever a time to speak up, ITS NOW! Make no mistake…. We are in trouble.”
And Brittany also took to IG to express her support for Trump:
“The ones with a brain can see through the smear campaign.”
And today, they launched a new line of “Free Trump” merch to support the former president.
Brittany unveiled on her Instagram the new merch, while revealing that purchases of the shirts and hats would help support Trump.
Of course Jason and Brittany are good friends with the Donald, and even partied with him at Mar-A-Lago for New Years a couple years ago, where Trump introduced Aldean as “the number one in the world.”
(The number one what? Who knows).
And Trump also supported Aldean among the controversy over his #1 hit “Try That In A Small Town” last year, praising him as a “fantastic guy” and calling it a “great song.”
“Jason Aldean is a fantastic guy who just came out with a great new song. Support Jason all the way. MAGA!”
Not surprising that they were the first to speak out after the verdict.
