JD Clayton is one of the latest artists to be featured on OurVinyl TV’s OurVinyl Sessions, and you’ve gotta check it out.
Featuring four tunes from different eras of his career, Clayton’s OurVinyl Sessions EP gets rolling with a fresh rendition of his timeless hit “Brown Haired Blue Eyed Baby” that was originally released as a single in 2018 and has since amassed nearly 14 million streams on Spotify alone. Also included in the project is “Beauty Queen” off of the 2023 debut record Long Way From Home, Clayton’s latest folk single “High Hopes and Low Expectations,” and a brand new single titled “Madelene.”
Joining the ranks of artists like Tyler Childers, Charley Crockett, and Billy Strings, who, among many other incredible roots artists have participated in the OurVinyl Sessions, Clayton is the latest up and coming act to let his songwriting ability and vocal prowess shine in the stripped back nature of the session. In an Instagram post, Clayton details how “Madelene” came to be:
“I wrote ‘Madelene’ in a hotel room in Grand Junction, Colorado while killing time before a show.
It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve write. It makes me feel so nostalgic and I instantly get transported to high school in the last few months before a summer break, driving around with a crush and pretending those feelings were going to last forever.
I also couldn’t pass up the opportunity to finally have a whistle song.”

An Arkansas native, JD Clayton is an artist that should be on everyone’s radar this summer as he continues to release new music in anticipation of a forthcoming sophomore record.
On the strength of his innately deft lyricism, diverse sonic sensibilities, and laid back demeanor, Clayton has quietly made a name for himself at this point, but one can only assume that he is on the verge of a bigger breakthrough at the moment.
The proof is in the music, that’s for sure.
