Honoring a real-life hero.

Of course while everybody was thankful that former President Donald Trump was able to survive the cowardly assassination attempt last weekend, the shooting tragically took the life of 50-year old Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief from Butler Township, Pennsylvania.

Comperatore’s daughter posted a heartbreaking tribute to her father the day after the shooting, recalling his heroism as the shots rang out:

“The media will not tell you that he died a real-life super hero. They are not going to tell you how quickly he threw my mom and I to the ground. They are not going to tell you that he shielded my body from the bullet that came at us.

He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us. And I want nothing more than to cry on him and tell him thank you. I want nothing more than to wake up and for this to not be reality for me and my family.

We lost a selfless, loving husband, father, brother, uncle, son, and friend. And I will never stop thinking about him and mourning him until the day that I die too. July 13th will forever be a day that changed my life. I will never be the same person I was less than 24 hours ago.

There are a lot of children out there that say their dad is their hero, but my dad really is mine. I don’t think I would be here today without him.

Dad, I love you so much that there aren’t enough words to express how deep that love goes. I know you’ll give heaven some hell. I know that God is proud of the man that came to His gates yesterday.”

During his speech at the RNC last night, Trump paid tribute to the fallen hero, delivering his speech with Comperatore’s fire uniform on stage beside him. And in a poignant moment, the former president walked over to the display and kissed Comperatore’s helmet, appearing emotional as he paused before returning to the podium.

Today, the father, husband and former firefighter was laid to rest in Pennsylvania. And during the funeral service, Billy Ray Cyrus was on hand to honor Comperatore and his service not only to his family but to his community and our country.

A funeral procession containing hundreds of fire trucks from as far away as Florida and Texas escorted Comperatore as his casket was delivered on his old fire truck, with members of the community lining the streets to honor him for his bravery and sacrifice.

And at the funeral service held at Comperatore’s church, Cabot Church in Cabot, PA, Billy Ray Cyrus paid tribute to the man who, as Billy Ray put it, “made the ultimate sacrifice” with performances of his 1992 hit “Some Gave All” and “Amazing Grace.”
