Charles Wesley Godwin rocking the late night stage.
I don’t know about you all, but I’m always here for any CWG performance I can get. The West Virginia native certainly knows how to put on a show, and the Late Show with Stephen Colbert audience found that out on Monday night. The rising country star got booked to perform on the late night program, and finished off the show with a spirited performance of “Family Ties.”
Back in February, Godwin and his band – The Allegheny High – made their late night debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! And with this second late night gig now under his belt, Charles Wesley Godwin appears to be getting used to the late night circuit. He certainly looked very comfortable belting out the title track from his family-focused Family Ties album that was released in September of last year.
I was wondering what song CWG would go with when it came time for he and his band to showcase their incredible sound and talent. When Godwin debuted in late night, he opted to play the high-energy “Cue Country Roads,” a song that could very easily win a non-fan over. This time around, Charles and The Allegheny High slowed things down and played a well-paced “Family Ties.”
If you’re a fan of Godwin’s, you know that this is one of the most personal and heartfelt songs he’s ever penned. The song and the accompanying album even spawned a phenomenal three-part short film titled “The Family Ties Trilogy,” which you should check out as soon as you can (in my humble opinion).
The chorus of the song would normally get a crowd of CWG fans shouting back, “Strike me down,” but knowing that they were trying to win over a late night audience, Charles and the rest of the band took on the responsibility of yelling it out. All in all, it’s a very well done and well executed performance of one of Godwin’s most popular and personal songs.
