Is this a punishment or a dream come true?
Granted, I am sure that when you are friends with someone as famous as Luke Combs, there is a nightmare factor thinking about getting on stage in front of a packed stadium alone…but then having to perform.
Football season is right around the corner, which means Fantasy Football drafts are about to take place. However, Luke Combs’ league is still finishing its punishments from last season and came up with the best punishment ever. Last night in Cincinnati, fans who attended his show got an extra special treat: His fantasy league’s losers had to perform on stage with him.
“Who knows what fantasy football is in here? I’ve been in a fantasy football league with some of my best friends from high school for 12 years now, and last year, we decided that whoever lost was gonna have to come on stage and sing with me tonight.
Lucky for me, there was a scoring issue in the last game, and my two best friends in the whole world both lost. And they both have to come out and sing in front of you guys tonight.
These guys have been nervous about this for a long time.”
As Combs finishes introducing his friends to the absolutely packed stadium, the two losers of his league walk out on stage with a cooler in tow. I can’t blame them. I’d need quite a few cold ones to muster the courage to sing in front of an audience that size. Then Combs tells fans the final caveat of the punishment.
“We worked a little something up with the band. Now, they didn’t get to pick what song they were going to sing. And if you notice, come on out here, fellas. Don’t be shy. Come on out.
I want everybody to get a little…stop right here for me. I want everybody to get a nice at their blue suede shoes, because these boys are about to be walking in Memphis. Come on.”
The band fires up “Walking In Memphis,” and Combs’ friends got to singing. The two men then take turns delivering the lyrics of the Marc Cohn song. The first friend crushes it, getting comfortable with the crowd, walking out on the catwalk, and working the crowd. Then the second friend (who is rocking a SWEET Miller Lite romper) also gets into character, channeling his best country music superstar with his in-ears in.
Combs is hyping them up the whole time, making sure they got through the performance without passing out on stage.
This is either a dream come true for his friends, or they will suffer severe trauma from this punishment. I’ve seen a lot of good fantasy punishments over the years, but this one has to go down as one of the best.
Take a look at a more extended version of their performance while you’re here.
