The 2017 video for the Pink track shared anti-Trump messaging months following his election

Pink skipped the acrobatics of her typical show and instead delivered a heartfelt performance of her song “What About Us” Thursday night at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The singer was joined by her daughter Willow Sage, who dueted the track with the singer.

Together, Pink, Willow, and their backup singers sang the track’s poignant verse: “We are searchlights, we can see in the dark/We are rockets, pointed up at the stars/We are billions of beautiful hearts/And you sold us down the river too far.” During their performance, a pink light blanketed the thousands in attendance.

Earlier in the day, Pink and Willow were captured rehearsing the Beautiful Trauma single. The 2017 “What About Us” video highlighted communities whose rights were threatened during Trump’s administration, including immigrants and same-sex couples.

Last month, Pink officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris at a fundraising Zoom call that broke an attendance record for the platform, and raised nearly $2 million.

“We are in this … and I’m just really grateful that us women are going to have a voice, and we’ve always made our voices heard, and now it’s time to just get extra loud,” the singer said during the call, per The Wrap. “Let’s go. Let’s get loud.”

It’s been quite the musical convention. On night three, John Legend and Sheila E. paid tribute to Tim Walz’s home state with a rendition of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy,” Stevie Wonder played “Higher Ground,” and Maren Morris hit the stage. Earlier in the week, Lil Jon surprised the crowd by performing “Turn Down for What” during the states’ roll call on night two.

Back in 2020, Pink showed her support for President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris when she performed at the virtual “I Will Vote” event. Pink has been an advocate for LGBTQ and reproductive rights in the past, social issues that Harris have also championed.
