Evan Honer Enlists Hailey Whitters For Reimagined Duet Of “Fighting For”

Music

Evan Honer is teaming up with the Queen of the Corn.

Hailey Whitters and Evan Honer have combined their minds and voices to release a new song, “Fighting For.” Honer released the single as the title track for his album, which he shared earlier this year.

Given the song’s popularity, he decided to reimagine it with Whitters, giving them the “Hailey Whitters Version.”

I love this song as a duet. The lyrics do not change between the original cut and the version with Whitters, and the back-and-forth between Honer and her truly tells the story of a couple stuck in a rut, not sure what they are “Fighting For” when it comes to their relationship.

Honer delivers the first verse with the same hurt in his vocals as on the original cut. The first verse paints the picture of a man fighting to hold back his emotions within his relationship and the internal struggle of swallowing those feelings and the hurt it is causing him. Whitters comes in on the second verse and perfectly portrays the vocals of a heartbroken girl trying to figure out if it’s worth staying or leaving in a relationship that means a lot to her.

“Well the sun starts rising but it’s not what wakes meI get up from the sound of me cryingOn the bathroom floor and I hear the front door closeBefore these tears have a chance to start dryingThen its back to the old me I’m stuck in this routineI get lost in the thought of me losingThe one I loved so I’m compromisingAnd tonight you’re the vice that I’m choosing…”

The slight tweaks of the lyrics in the second verse from “her tears” to “these tears” were the perfect subtle changes to denote both perspectives in the relationship. Vocally, they sound incredible together, softly delivering the lyrics and portraying the emotions through each word and drawn-out note.

I was a fan of this track before Whitters was included, and now I will be listening to it on repeat.
