A number one album filled with number one hits.
On this day in 1987, Randy Travis was topping the charts with his monumental album Always & Forever. The album, released on May 7th of 1987, was Travis’ second country record via Warner Bros. Records.
The album was recorded the year before at StarGem and Audio Media studios in Nashville, Tennessee, and is one of the most successful works by a North Carolina native. In addition to being a number-one hit, the record had four number-one singles, which was a fairly rare accomplishment at the time.

“Too Gone Too Long,” “I Won’t Need You Anymore (Always and Forever),” “Forever and Ever, Amen,” and “I Told You So” all hit the top of the Billboard Hot Country Chart.
The record won Travis a Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male at the 30th Annual Grammy Awards, which was well deserved. The record not only won the artist a handful of awards but is arguably one of his most loved albums by fans.
