As one of the best fighters of this generation, Canelo is unsurprisingly the heavy favorite to win tonight. Oddsmakers are currently giving Mexican legend a moneyline of -1800 against Berlanga’s +1020.
But Berlanga isn’t without hope. The 27-year-old Puerto Rican upstart, who grew up in Brooklyn, New York, started his career with 16 straight knockouts — all in the first round. The streak stopped in 2021 when he won by unanimous decision against Demond Nicholson, and Berlanga went on to win four more times by decision. In February, he returned to his knockout ways, besting Padraig McCrory in the sixth round. Berlanga has held the NABO super middleweight title since 2021.
Berlanga’s only chance against the markedly more successful Canelo is to knock out the champion early — something that no one has come close to doing. In his 65 professional fights, Alvarez has never been knocked down or stopped.
