So there’s no trouble in paradise?
Zach Bryan found himself in the middle of a firestorm, and in the crosshairs of Swifties, a couple weeks ago when he tweeted that he thought Kanye West was better than Taylor Swift.
Obviously Kanye and Taylor have a lot of history, from the infamous VMA Awards moment to Ye’s single “Famous,” which took a dig at the pop superstar.
So Zach’s proclamation that Kanye is better than Taylor didn’t sit well with a lot of people, especially given some of Kanye’s more recent erratic behavior. Of course there’s no denying the man’s a musical and lyrical genius, and Zach posted a follow-up explaining that’s what he was referring to with his tweet and that it had nothing to do with the two stars personally:
“For the record guys, I wasn’t coming for Taylor the other night. I was drunkenly comparing two records and it came out wrong. I know there’s a lot of stuff that clouds around Ye, and I was speaking purely musically. I love Taylor’s music and pray you guys know I’m human and Tweet stupid things often.
Hope one day I can explain this to her. Twitter gets me in trouble too much, and I’d say it’s best I stay off it. I’m sorry to any Taylor Swift fans I pissed off or let down. Love you guys, and I’m trying my best!”
Zach then explained that he’s been going through a tough time in his personal life, and decided to delete his Twitter as he works through his struggles:
“I’ve been going through a hard time in my own life, and I think I was projecting a little. To be honest, it just came off as rude and desensitized to Taylor. I respect her so much as a musician that the last thing I want is people thinking I don’t appreciate and love what she has done for music.
Okay, that’s the last of it! I love you guys and hope you guys understand. Don’t drink and Tweet. Don’t drink and Tweet!!”
And it was that second statement that raised eyebrows, as eagle-eyed followers noticed that Zach and his girlfriend, Barstool Sports personality Brianna Chickenfry (whose real name is Brianna LaPaglia), hadn’t posted any pictures together recently and assumed that the “hard time” Zach was referring to was a breakup with his girlfriend.
Zach seemed to put those rumors to bed during a recent festival when he spoke of his girlfriend Brianna, and now Brianna is addressing the situation herself.
On this week’s episode of BFF’s, the podcast hosted by Brianna along with Josh Richards and Barstool founder Dave Portnoy, she was asked about the breakup rumors and whether she had anything she wanted to say on them. And she did:
“I don’t want to speak for Zach, but he kind of spoke for himself on Instagram. But he’s just going through a lot of personal shit I feel like I’m taking the brunt of it.”
(She clarified that by “taking the brunt of it” she meant in the online rumor mill).
“It was a bad week where we – I mean, it’s crazy that we don’t post each other for a week, it’s like it took the internet by storm. But he was going through a lot of personal stuff and I went home and just separated. And I mean, we’re together now and everything’s ok.”
Now, I’m not sure what she meant by “separated,” if they actually did break up or whether she just means they were apart from each other for a few days. But it definitely sounds like fans were right to think that something was going on – though she claims they’re all good now.
