Larry Fleet & John Daly Pay Tribute To Dean Dillon With “Don’t Cry Darlin’” Performance

Music

It’s very rare for someone that’s really good at one thing to also be incredibly gifted in another area.

John Daly is one hell of a golfer, and as we’ve seen time and time again when videos like these come out, he’s one hell of a singer and musician as well. Not to say that he should have gone into music rather than his professional golfing career… but he does have enough there to hold his own while on stage.

He’s also world class when it comes to putting away alcoholic beverages and posting up at the local Hooters, but that’s another story. He’s a man of many talents…

Earlier this week, a phenomenal collection of country stars came together in Huntsville, Alabama to celebrate the great Dean Dillon – one of country music’s all-time great songwriters. The tribute concert was a real who’s who, and plenty of big names came out for a celebration of life that was called Songs and Stories of Dean Dillon.

The likes of Vince Gill, Cody Johnson, Riley Green and others all played some of biggest hits that Dillon ever penned. In his illustrious career, Dean Dillon has brought to life songs for George Strait, Toby Keith, Keith Whitley, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, Alabama, and many, many more legendary artists. Like the great David Allan Coe.

When Larry Fleet brought his good friend John Daly up on stage (you can hear more about that on a recent episode of the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast) as a part of the celebration, they decided to perform a duet of sorts with Coe’s all-time classic hit “Don’t Cry Darlin’” – which was, of course, written by Dean Dillon.

Not only did it work as a tribute to the songwriter that the event was meant to honor, it also showcased the talent and voices of Larry Fleet and John Daly. Could a “Daly Duets” country album be on the way at some point? I wouldn’t be upset about it.
