Jamey Johnson is transporting you to Bourbon Street.
The Big Easy is known for the jazz that fills the streets, the rich history, and the musicians that line the cobblestone roads busking for money, hoping they get noticed one day and make it big. New Orleans is a city unlike any other, and Jamey Johnson is bringing in some of the city’s liveliness on his latest single, “Saturday Night In New Orleans.”
Jamey Johnson has made his return to the studio KNOWN, releasing stellar track after stellar track with the announcement of his forthcoming album Midnight Gasoline.
“I think the only common thread would be me. There isn’t an overtone or some underlying theme in the songs. They are just glimpses of my life. Some of them are just funny stories, and not all of them were written recently.
In that regard, I really am kind of picking up where I left off, grabbing those few songs that were probably ready to put out back then. It’s good to get those out there.”
From his cover of “Trudy” with Randy Houser to the tender love song “What A View” and the sober single “21 Guns,” Johnson is showing off his versatility as an artist. He continues on that track, enlisting Chris Stapleton as a co-writer for his latest single.
Johnson has had this song in his vault for quite a few years, as he shared an acoustic version of the track four years ago. Co-written alongside Chris Stapleton and Tony Joe White, “Saturday Night In New Orleans” is a glimpse into the city for a night and what folks might see wandering the streets of the French Quarter. For the folks of NOLA, every night feels like a Saturday night, as the partying and wildness never slows down.
The jazz and blues influence of this single is easily identifiable as it brings in the whine of a trumpet throughout the chorus, truly making it feel as though you are listening to a street-style performance during portions of the song.
Johnson captivated fans when he first shared this single years ago, and he knocked the studio version out of the park, making it one you’ll have on repeat all day.
Given the diversity he has shown on the singles released thus far for his forthcoming record, I can’t wait to see what else is in store.
While you’re here, check out the acoustic version, shared during the virtual Farm Aid stream back in 2020.
