This is a big moment for Giovannie & the Hired Guns’ frontman. The Texas “Tejano Punk” group released their first single since Giovannie Yanez completed his drug and alcohol rehabilitation treatment.
Earlier this summer, the larger-than-life personality of Giovannie Yanez took to social media to share that he would be stepping away from music to focus on himself and get help, checking himself into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. The frontman for the Texas country rock band was always known for having a good time and portraying this rock and roll lifestyle centered around partying. However, Yanez realized that his lifestyle was turning into something more than having a good time with the boys; it was becoming a problem.
“I love you all. I never thought I’d be doing a post like this. I was surprised by my entire band and wife that my problem was getting serious and worse.
I love each and everyone of yall all the fans all my friends all my everyone in my life. I’ll be out soon. Just gotta be a little selfish. Don’t be scared to ask for help like me, but I’m human I messed up so glad I have the people I do in my life. This is a little bump in the road to world domination!! I love you all I’m sorry I hope this helps someone that is struggling.”
Gio did what was best for him, completing the program as a new man. Of course, becoming sober is only half of the battle; maintaining your sobriety can come with a whole new set of challenges. But Gio posted on social media that he is doing well and can’t wait to return to performing.
“Before and after… God is good can’t wait to get back out to perform and entertain you beautiful f***s! I’ve missed y’all.”
And now, Giovannie & the Hired Guns showed fans that he is back and better than ever with the release of the band’s first single since he came home from rehab, “Cheap Tequila.” The Texas band is putting the rock in this country rock song, still embodying that wild child, party spirit of their band with this new single.
“Cheap Tequila” tells the story of the mistakes you might make when cheap tequila is getting to your head. You might make up the morning after a night of downing cheap liquor with your head pounding and regretting some of the choices that you made. But the narrator realizes that he no longer needs “Cheap Tequila” and that he can have a good time as long as he is with the woman he loves by his side.
“And sometimes
On Friday
We go out and party
And you think
It’s funny
I don’t have a lot of money
Cause I
Don’t
Need anything quite like that
Cause you
Were all I need
You’re all I need”
The return to the recording booth highlights the intertwining of what he learned while he was away in the lyrics but still maintains the integrity of the sound that the group has curated over the years. Gio might be entering a new chapter of his life, but with the release of “Cheap Tequila,” fans can rest assured that the band’s rowdy sound is not going anywhere.
Gosh, it’s good to hear new Giovannie & the Hired Guns playing through my speakers. Welcome back, Gio.
Fire it up.
