We’re just a few days away from the highly-anticipated premiere of Yellowstone: Season 5 Part 2, the dramatic conclusion of the flagship Yellowstone series. Of course, the series has already sparked a number of spinoffs with more in the pipeline, but it will officially be the end of an era, as one of the most popular shows of the past 5 years comes to an end.
Set to premiere this Sunday, November 10th, on Paramount Network… writer and creator Taylor Sheridan will tie a bow on the series without its legendary lead, Kevin Costner, who plays the Dutton family patriarch, John Dutton. How they end up dealing with the Costner departure remains to be seen, but there’s no doubt that he is an integral part of the story, and though he may not be physically on screen, his presence will be felt in the final 6 episodes.
I imagine we start the season with him already dead, creating a firestorm for the rest of the Dutton family, as they battle each other to fill the void and take control to save the ranch, but that’s just a guess. All we really know is that it’s going to be bloody, it’s going to be wild, and according to many memebers of the cast, it’s going to be incredible.
But aside from the plot and the cast, the music in the series is what really hooked me from the very beginning. We’re talking about some of the best in country music, and not the type of artists you’d typically hear on mainstream country radio. No, we’re talking about the unsung heroes of the genre, the ones who were largely underground when the series began in 2018, and many who have blossomed into full fledged country music superstars selling our massive venues.
We’re talking artists like Tyler Childers, Cody Jinks, Whiskey Myers, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, Colter Wall, Shane Smith & The Saints, Zach Bryan and many more. We actually dove into some of the numbers and the “Yellowstone Effect” is very real… Shane Smith and the Saints, Whiskey Myers and many others have seen SIGNIFICANT increases in streaming numbers as a result of appearing on the show.
Yellowstone also features a ton of Ryan Bingham’s music, who stars in the show as Walker, a drifting, ex-con ranch hand on the Dutton’s Yellowstone Ranch. And the first half of Season 5 introduced us to a new character named Abby, who is played by country music star Lainey Wilson. Abby will make her return in the second half of Season 5, and we’ll find out how things shake out with her love interest Ryan, played by Ian Bohen.
Since you only hear small clips throughout the show, it might be hard to grasp just how good this soundtrack truly is, so we did the heavy lifting for you, tracked down every single song, and put them all in one place for your listening pleasure. Our Yellowstone: The Soundtrack playlist, available on Spotify and Apple Music, has garnered over 205,000 followers and is updated in real time every Sunday night as new songs enter the Yellowstone universe.
It might just be the best playlist on planet Earth… shoutout to music supervisor Andrea von Foerster and Taylor Sheridan for putting together a phenomenal collection.
