Sundance Head, Former Winner Of ‘The Voice,’ Shot In Stomach At His Texas Ranch

Music

A scary situation played out at Sundance Head’s East Texas ranch this past Friday.

You might remember the name Sundance Head from Season 11 of The Voice, when the Texas native won the entire competition. The singer songwriter has since been enjoyed the singing show boost and has released two full length albums and a number of singles.

Fans of the “Darlin’ Don’t Go” singer were sent into panic yesterday when Head’s Facebook page was updated with a concerning message from his wife, Misty. She let everyone know that Sundance had been involved in an accidental shooting, and that prayers were needed and much appreciated:

“Prayer Warriors, we need y’all. This is Misty – I don’t have a lot of information but please keep Sundance in your prayers. Sundance has been life flighted with a gun shot wound to his stomach per the paramedics who called me. They told me once they land he’s going in for immediate surgery. They did get him stable for the flight (per the paramedic). We are on our way to Tyler now.”

Once Misty and their two kids got to the hospital, they thankfully received good news. Doctors informed them that the gunshot wound did not cause any internal damage. As to how he was shot, his wife revealed that he was his ranch hunting by himself, and friends were expected to join him over the weekend.

She clarified that he was not shot with his hunting rifle, and assured everyone that no one shot him:

“He was out of the vehicle reaching in to grab his 22, and when he grabbed it, the 22 came out of its holster and hit the exterior of the Jeep just right and went off. Sundance said it happened so fast and he could see the bullet dislodging.

I thought he called 911 he didn’t. He put his hands in pocket for phone immediately after getting hit, but phone wasn’t there. Just filled with blood, so he took off down the driveway out to the main road to flag a car down for help. 10 cars later someone turned around to help and called 911.”

Fortunately, the bullet entered just above Sundance’s navel and lodged in his abdominal wall. Because no vital organs were affected, the doctors opted to leave the bullet, and no surgery was needed.

Such a scary situation, but it sounds like everything worked out as well as it could have.

Misty took to Facebook again this morning to provide another update on Sundance to fans that were concerned about his well-being following the gunshot wound:

“Good morning just wanted to give an update on Sundance. He was released late last night. We got home very early this morning it was a rough three hour ride home for him as the meds were wearing off and because he was moving and was bleeding badly through his dressings.

Not to mention he was in just a hospital gown all his clothes were at the ranch. We got him home I was able to change and clean out the dressing and repack though he’s not an easy patient and gave him some Motrin. Not sure I slept because I was worried about him as was he but hearing him snore was music to my ears.”

Head’s wife went on to say that Sundance will explain how everything went down in his own words when he’s ready, and that she wouldn’t be surprised if the singer-songwriter turned this life-threatening incident into a full-blown album.

She also shared a picture of the shirt that Sundance was wearing when he was accidentally struck by the bullet:

“I’m posting a pic of his shirt just so y’all can see how lucky he was. Any higher or lower would have been devastating. I can’t express how grateful we are for all the messages, calls, and prayers. God is AWESOME. He’s definitely going to have a lot to say and once he feels up to it.

I’ll have him do a video in his own words. Y’all know he has a way with words and know he won’t just have a song to write but an entire album of this accident. Again, thank you all. Picture is not too graphic, but if you have a weak stomach don’t click and blow up the pic to see bullet hole.”
