Dasha Suffers Embarrassing Makeup Malfunction During Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Music

Lesson learned.

Now, just to get this out of the way at the top: I don’t know anything about lipstick or makeup or any of that, so I’m the last one who should be judging any of that. I didn’t even realize there were different kinds of lipstick that were waterproof, while some apparently aren’t? What will they think of next.

Well apparently Dasha didn’t plan for the rain yesterday at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade when picking out her makeup either.

Dasha is, of course, the pop country sensation who went mega-viral with her debut hit “Austin” earlier this year. The song took over TikTok, awards shows, and pretty much everything, and along with Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song,” became one of the biggest viral “country” songs of the year.

Now I’m not a huge fan of the song, and it’s not really country to me, but it’s undeniably a hit, so it’s no surprise that the organizers of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade invited Dasha to perform her viral song.

(I say “perform” but everybody knows that these aren’t live performances and that they’re actually lip-syncing, right?)

But anyway, Dasha was there to lip-sync along to her song, but apparently she didn’t exactly plan for the rainy weather at this year’s parade – or her makeup didn’t hold up to the elements.

Viewers quickly noticed that the singer’s lipstick was smearing all the way down her face as she was performing for the NBC broadcast:

Whoops.

Well Dasha was apparently embarrassed by the makeup malfunction too, reacting to it in a video posted to TikTok where she blamed the weather and said she learned her lesson about performing in the rain:

@dasha today i learned a lesson about performing in the rain #greenscreenvideo #macysthanksgivingdayparade ♬ Just A Girl – No Doubt

And to be fair, nobody really expects much from these parade performances anyway, right? As I mentioned, everybody knows that they’re lip-syncing, and for good reason. The music is not only being broadcast for the people lining the streets of New York City, but also to millions watching on TV, and it’s all coming from a moving float.

There’s no chance they could make that sound good if the performers actually had to sing live. So while I’m usually against lip-syncing, I’ll give them a pass for this one. It’s not like they’re doing it in concert. It’s a 30-second snippet for a parade that nobody’s going to remember in a week anyway.

But the weather presented challenges yesterday, with rain coming down throughout the parade. And the rain wasn’t the only issue: Pro-Palestinian protestors also disrupted the event at one point before being dragged off by NYPD.

With a live event of that size, things are bound to go wrong and you’ve just got to roll with the punches. And maybe plan your makeup better for the next time you have to perform in the rain.
