Duet infidelity?
Forget that I said that, honestly. I was just trying to find an interesting angle of presenting this live performance, and in no way, shape or form am I trying to stir anything up. I’m just pointing out that Riley Green had someone else other than Ella Langley sing their duet “Don’t Mind If I Do” during a recent live performance.
Green released the duet with Ella Langley back in early September as a single ahead of his album of the same name, which eventually dropped on October 18th. Coming off the roaring success of the duo’s other song together, “You Look Like You Love Me,” their new duet was also widely accepted by country music fans as yet another Green-Langley masterclass.
Many people assumed that Green included Langley on his lead single because of how popular “You Look Like You Love Me” had become, but when he sat down in an Apple Music interview, he revealed that Ella was included on the song somewhat by accident:
“I don’t know if I’ve told you this, but I didn’t plan on her being on that song. I wrote it as a duet, but I had her come by the studio to put a female vocal on it just to hear it so I could potentially pitch it around. She just crushed it. It sounded so great. You know, we are from very similar areas in Alabama, and I think we grew up listening to the same kind of music.
So maybe that’s why our voices go so well together, and we’ve got the same kind of twang. So, even having those two duets wasn’t a planned thing; it just kind of happened. And I’m happy for her success, and it’s fun having her on the road to do those two songs and have those two hits with her.”
Interesting that he said that at the end.
Ella Langley is scheduled to be with Riley Green on many of his Damn Country Music tour dates in 2025, but she evidently wasn’t available for Green’s recent performance in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. You know who was though? Rising country music superstar Megan Moroney.
Green and Moroney sat on barstools up on the stage at Hard Rock Live to perform the slowly building duet. Riley was obviously comfortable with his verses, and Megan really showcased her vocal talents as she offered up harmonies and took over the part of the song that originally belonged to Ella Langley.
Based on how the audience originally reacted in the beginning of the performance, it appears that Moroney’s presence there was a surprise for those in attendance. And what a surprise it was, because Riley Green and Megan Moroney laid down a beautiful rendition of his hit song, which is now rightfully and understandably getting a lot of attention online.
