Sharing one from the road.
Kenny Chesney and Megan Moroney‘s friendship was one of my favorite things from 2024. This year, Moroney hit the road with Chesney for his expansive Sun Goes Down stadium tour, and Chesney gave the Emo Cowgirl a massive opportunity to share her new songs on stage with him. I also love this friendship/mentorship because it gives me the same feeling as Taylor Swift with Kenny Chesney early in her career and their lasting relationship.
After the tour, Chesney clearly respected Megan, shouting out her CMA Award win on social media. On the other hand, Moroney was thankful for the time on the road with him, as it taught her a lot about creating a loyal fanbase and quality live shows, which is the key to a long and successful career.
The two had a blast together, especially during the tour’s closing shows. Megan Moroney and Kenney Chesney shared the stage the last few nights, and it was beyond sentimental.
Megan Moroney hit the stage as Kenny Chesney, pranking him riding out on a tractor with a straw hat and cut-off t-shirt. She rocked the signature Kenny Chesney look. After the hilarious moment, Chesney addressed the crowd, telling his fans how much it meant that she was on the road with him.
“Megan not only came out on the road with her songs, but she came out on the road this summer with her heart. And for that, we love you very much. It is my pleasure to introduce to New England the wonder and the magic of Megan Moroney everybody!”
With that, the band strikes into the title single off her latest record, “Am I Okay?” Moroney was left in total surprise as she already played the song during her opening set, but Chesney wanted her to do it again in front of the packed crowd with a little support from him.
Chesney begins jumping around on stage to hype up the crowd before she dives into the first verse.
“I checked my pulse and my heart’s still beating
Exhale, I think I’m still breathing
Both feet on the ground but something’s changed
I’ve been playing less black keys, baby
And my friends swear I’ve gone crazy
I don’t know how to act
I don’t know what to say…”
The concert then clips to another one of the final nights, where they performed the song again. Kenny Chesney looks like a proud father jumping around on stage singing with Moroney. While he lets her have the limelight, leading the vocals, you can see him mouthing some of the words while she sings.
I hope we see more from this mentorship and friendship next year; it’s just too sweet.
