Despite the destructive fires in Los Angeles, the Grammy Awards will still take place.
It’s no secret that L.A. and surrounding cities face extreme loss as the wildfires spread. Thousands of California residents have lost everything as wildfires rapidly spread due to the forceful Santa Ana winds.
Over the weekend, the city felt some relief as a US military aircraft dropped more than 16,000 gallons of fire suppressant on the wildfires. While there were some happy moments from this relief, like a man being reunited with his dog after five days, California is still not in the clear, as the winds still threaten the fires to keep spreading.

Mayor Doug Stewart spoke to a CNN correspondent, noting that the city of Malibu has water tanks filled and ready to be used if another fire breaks out.
“So that’s first and foremost on our plate, is to make sure we’re ready in case another fire breaks out. We also have got to take care of all of our residents that have been seriously impacted by what’s already happened. So, we’re in multiple stages of repair and preparation for the future.”
However, despite major devastation in Los Angeles and neighboring cities, the Recording Academy announced today that the fires will not affect its plan to host the 2025 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
Billboard Magazine reported the following joint statement CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and Chair of the Board of Trustees Tammy Hurt made regarding their plan to proceed with the original date for the music award show.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. This city is our home, and we mourn the loss of life and destruction that have come to it in recent days.”
In close coordination with local authorities to ensure public safety and responsible use of area resources, the 67th Grammy Awards telecast on CBS on Feb. 2 will proceed as planned. This year’s show, however, will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours.
In challenging times, music has the power to heal, comfort, and unite like nothing else. The Grammys will not only honor the artistry and achievements of our music community but also serve as a platform to amplify the spirit of resilience that defines this great city of Los Angeles.”
Other Grammy events leading up to the awards show, such as the MusiCares Person of the Year event and the Recording Academy’s Special Merit Awards, have yet to be commented on. The Grammy Awards will air on CBS on February 2nd at the Crypto.com Arena. You can also stream them on Paramount+ with the Showtime add-on.
Last week, MusiCares announced that it pledged $1 million to the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort and will continue to help its community in any way it can.
“This initiative is committed to providing critical assistance to the people who bring music into our lives when they need it most.”
