South Carolina Woman Goes Viral For Unknowingly Asking Woody Harrelson To Take Picture Of Her With Darius Rucker

File this under “Reasons Why TikTok Shouldn’t Get Banned.”

In case you didn’t know, country music singer and former frontman of Hootie & The Blowfish (to be clear, he’s not Hootie) Darius Rucker is great friends with movie star Woody Harrelson. The pair crossed paths at some point and hit it off, and have been close ever since.

They became even closer when Harrelson apparently saved Rucker’s life, which Darius detailed in his memoir titled Life’s Too Short.

The book opened up its very first chapter with a non-music-related story, and it was a wild one to say the least. Remember learning in school that you should grab the attention of your reader when you first start out? Rucker accomplished that and then some telling the story about how the Hollywood actor kept him from drowning.

When Rucker stopped by Today last summer to talk about his new book, he was asked about that story, and he happily got into some of the specifics of the scary event during the interview:

“Woody is my brother. Woody and I are really, really close, and I went to visit him in Hawaii and we went swimming. And I’ll never forget this…

I got caught up in this rip current, and it was just killing me. He came back and we were trying to get out. It was probably a good 40 minutes of trying to get out.”

They eventually were able to get back to shore, even after Rucker encouraged Harrelson to leave him behind by saying that they both “didn’t have to die” out in the ocean. I’d be willing to bet that an experience like that brings two friends together that much more, and from what we know, the duo still carve time out of their busy lives to hang out with one another.

Thanks to TikTok, we found out that Rucker and Harrelson were together rather recently, and it appears they were out to eat in Charleston, South Carolina. That would check out, since Rucker owns a home in the historic city. As they were out and about, some young women recognized Rucker, and asked for a picture.

However, they did not recognize Harrelson, as she explained in her TikTok’s overlaid caption:

“One time my friend and I saw Darius Rucker at a bar and we asked his friend to take a photo of us. Darius was laughing and kept saying, ‘I’m gonna tell this story.’ We then saw people asking to take photos with his friend. We asked Woody Harrelson to take a photo OF us.”

Hilariously, Darius Rucker’s friend – who just so happened to be Woody Harrelson – snapped a selfie as he was also taking the photo of the two young women posing next to the country star. She included the selfie of Harrelson in her post, and the TikTok went viral.

Maybe they were just blinded by the fact that they were meeting Darius Rucker and they’re brains couldn’t comprehend that his friend could be the award winning actor? It seems as though Harrelson handled not being recognized in a very comedic fashion, kindly taking the phone and capturing the moment with the celebrity they had requested a picture with.

It went viral enough to be featured on Carson Daly’s “PopStart” segment on Today:
