The comedian also stars in Lopez vs Lopez with his daughter, Mayan Lopez, that was renewed for a third season in May
George Lopez has entered the final chapter of his stand-up comedy specials, with his last streaming special, Muy Católico, Prime Video announced Thursday. The one-hour special, which translates to “very Catholic,” traces a reflective period for the comedian as he explores his old age, Latino family dynamics, and cultural superstitions. Muy Católico, which was filmed live from the Dolby Theatre in Las Angeles last year, will premiere Feb. 18 on Prime Video.
The comedian also stars in the NBC sitcom Lopez vs Lopez with his daughter Mayan Lopez. The series, which has been renewed for a third season, takes a fictional approach to their real-life father daughter bond.
Many remember the comedian for the American sitcom George Lopez, which popularly signaled the start of Nick at Nite. The sitcom, which premiered in 2002, ran for six seasons on Nickelodeon and ABC. In a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, Lopez said he came up with the American sitcom after watching Tim Allen’s stand up show in the late Eighties. “Everything that he had in his act was in his show,” he said, referring to Allen’s Home Improvement. “I remember looking at him and thinking, ‘I don’t think I have any of that.’”
In the last two decades, Lopez has released several comedy specials including America’s Mexican in 2007, Tall, Dark and Chicano in 2009, It’s Not Me, It’s You in 2012, The Wall in 2017, and We’ll Do It for Half in 2020. Tall, Dark and Chicano and America’s Mexican both received a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album.
