I’m sure by now you’ve probably seen the videos from Bailey Zimmerman‘s drunken performance at Luke Bryan’s Crash My Playa festival in Cancun, Mexico.
Last week, Bailey performed at the annual beachfront festival, taking the stage overlooking the pool and delivering a performance that…well, left a lot to be desired.

Fans in the comments compared it to dive bar karaoke, and quickly began speculating that the young country singer was hammered, something that Bailey confirmed when he released a video yesterday apologizing for the trainwreck:
“So, I’d like to talk about something that’s been eating me alive. Last weekend down in Cancun, Mexico, I’m sure everyone has seen the videos of me playing absolutely awful. And singing absolutely awful. And I feel like you guys deserve an explanation from me because you’ve had my back through the highs and lows and through every mistake.
So, what happened was I decided to drink that day, which was a mistake, and I got up on stage, and I was too drunk to play. And I sang awful, I played awful. Nobody got the show they wanted or paid for, and I’m disappointed in myself.
“If you’ve been to my shows, you know how much I’ve talked about God since Day 1, and it was an awful representation of that. I’m embarrassed and I’m gonna do everything in my power to make sure this never happens again. I’m just asking for a little grace. Man, growing up is interesting, and it’s not an excuse, but, man, thank you to everybody who’s got my back.”

Most of the fans were pretty understanding in the comments (although some pointed out that this isn’t the first time this has happened…), and even Bailey’s fellow artists like Chase Rice were there to support him in the comments on his Instagram video:
“Been there dude. Learn from it and move on, proud of you for owning it, now go be the star you are.”
Morgan Wallen went a step further though – telling Bailey that he thought the performance was fine:
“I thought you sounded great.”
Great, eh? I mean, that might be going a LITTLE too far…let’s go back to the tape:

Hard time arguing that’s “great.”
And to his credit, Bailey replied to Morgan’s comment admitting that it was a rough performance:
“For sure not my best bub”
Who knows, maybe Morgan was just joking around to try to lift Bailey’s spirits. The two are obviously close, having spent time on the road together while Bailey was opening up for Morgan on his One Night At A Time tour.
And Morgan certainly has had his fair share of issues in the past, and knows how it feels to have to issue an apology after screwing up. So maybe he was just trying to inject some humor into the situation and make Bailey feel better about an embarrassing moment.
But if he really thought that performance “sounded great” then…well, like I said, the jokes write themselves at this point.
