That was… fast.
Today, Morgan Wallen scored his 17th #1 song (including features) at country radio with “Love Somebody,” which tops the Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. It’s his 16th #1 on this particular chart, with the other official tracking chart for labels and radio also including Mediabase.

The song was written by Morgan with John Byron, Ashley Gorley, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, Elof Loelv and Ryan Vojtesak, and focuses on how he longs for a real relationship with a girl who loves him for who he is as a person, rather than a massive country star with unending amounts of money and fame. It seems likely that Morgan pulled inspiration from his own personal life with this one, because he’s been on a rocket ship to the moon the last several years with his music, and it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
This song marks one of the first we’ve heard from his just-announced, forthcoming album I’m The Problem, which he announced this morning alongside a summer stadium tour of the same name. He’s also released “Smile” from the tracklist, and will put out the title track next Friday.
Also with “Love Somebody” going #1, according to Billboard, he breaks a record set by Luke Combs on the Country Airplay chart:
“Dating to his first Country Airplay No. 1, ‘Up Down’ (featuring Florida Georgia Line), in June 2018, the Sneedville, Tenn., native boasts the most leaders, surpassing Luke Combs’ 15 in that span.”
Morgan also tallied five Country Airplay #1’s during 2024, giving him the honor of becoming the first artist to bank that many in a single year in the survey’s 35-year history, with the songs “Lies Lies Lies,” “Cowgirls”, “I Had Some Help” (with Post Malone), “Man Made a Bar” (featuring Eric Church); and Thomas Rhett’s “Mamaw’s House” (featuring Wallen).
With “Smile” also having a strong debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, I’d say it’s well on its way to becoming his 18 #1 country hit… and sooner rather than later.
“Love Somebody”
With a new album on the way and another big tour planned for this summer, I’d say Morgan is on track to have another monster year, somehow bigger than the last. He will have a rotating group of heavyweight openers in Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Ella Langley, Koe Wetzel, Gavin Adcock, Thomas Rhett, Corey Kent, and Anne Wilson.
