Shania Twain’s Singing Tongue Super Bowl Commercial Made People SUPER Uncomfortable

Music

How about these Eagles?!

As I write this, Philadelphia leads Kansas City 24-0 at the half, and while there’s a lot of time for Patrick Mahomes and company to make yet another miraculous late game comeback, it’s hard to complain if you don’t want to see a Chiefs three-peat.

If you want some hard hitting grid-iron analysis, I’m not your guy, but I do need to address one of the commercials that just played because it had a whole lot of people feeling all kinds of uncomfortable.

Earlier this week, Shania Twain made her long-anticipated return to the Super Bowl stage. Well, not exactly in the same manner as she did back in 2003 when she was the halftime performer, but she did star in a Coffee-Mate commercial for their cold foam creamers, which are apparently so good you’ll want to spray them right in your mouth.

Here’s the commercial, tell me if you can spot Shania.

Now if you had a tough time, no worries, I’ll help you out.

She’s the tongue…

Yep, and honestly I wouldn’t expect anything less from her at this point.

There’s no denying that she was a certified icon back in the 90’s. You still can’t go to a karaoke bar without hearing a rendition of two of “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” or “Any Man Of Mine” but we also need to call a spade a spade and say that some of her decisions lately have been… questionable.

Remember when she went on her first tour in nearly a decade a few years back? Obviously a whole lot of people, including my cousin, went out of their way to go see her but were extremely disappointed by the weird stage presence, shaky vocals, and an overall feeling that she wasn’t fully there…

Then there was the “country” song she put out with Yung Gravy… Safe to say fans weren’t really thrilled about “White Claw” and Yung Gravy’s foray into “country music” died out shortly after.

Well, I think we can add this strange Coffee Mate commercial to her list of recent head scratchers. Just take a look at some of the reactions right after the commercial aired.

And there was plenty more where that came from…

She spoke to People about the commercial before it aired:

“There’s so much involved with the tongue that a lot of people don’t even realize, so it just made technical sense in a way, on a nerdy level.

But also, I think it is just very fun. The fun of the cold foam and the dancing tongue was great.”

She was also pretty pumped up about the song for the ad:

“The song itself is so catchy and fun and boppy.

It was just like the ultimate pop bop, and it felt like something I wanted to get into just for the fun of it. I had to get the feeling, get my tongue around it, I guess you could say.”

Listen, I’m not going to blame Shania for wanting to stay out in the public eye and I’m sure they cut her one heck of a big check to fling her tongue around a bit (which is a sentence I never thought I’d be typing but here we are) but… you think someone would be looking out for her.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see if Coffee Mate’s cold foam creamer sales start to spike but judging by the online reaction, I’m thinking the marketing department may be in for a long Super Bowl Monday…
