“Never Happy Tearing Down Another Woman” – Megan Moroney Wasn’t Happy With Fans Pitting Her Against Carrie Underwood Over Inauguration Performance

Not turning against other women in country.

It seems like fans are always trying to pit artists against each other. And Megan Moroney knows this feeling all too well.

Recently, fans speculated that she and Riley Green were in the midst of a secret love affair. Moroney recently cleared that topic up during an interview with Rolling Stone, noting the pair were together in St. Barts but are not dating.

He was individually on his vacation with his friends. St. Barts is a popular place! It’s one of those things where if you know someone on a small island, you’re like, ‘Oh, sh*t, you’re here too.’ So it was fun.

Just because we’re hanging out doesn’t mean we’re romantically dating. You know what I mean?”

However, this was not the first time that Moroney found herself at the middle of a social media firestorm.

In January, Moroney found herself in some unwanted attention after her name began trending on social media after Carrie Underwood was announced as a performer during the presidential inauguration.

When it was shared on the internet that Underwood was to sing “America The Beautiful,” some fans were outraged that she agreed to perform at an event for Donald Trump.

While a vocal minority of fans were upset, Underwood didn’t let the hate or the technical difficulties get to her, laying down a beautiful a cappella version of the tune.

However, to Megan Moroney’s surprise, her name began trending amid the Carrie Underwood hate as fans promised to delete Underwood’s songs from their playlists and replace them with music from the Emo Cowgirl. As fans started to pledge their allegiance to Moroney, there was also online conversation that pitted the two women against each other, noting that Moroney was not superior to Underwood.

But Megan Moroney wanted no part in the narrative.

The singer recently told Rolling Stone that she never wants to tear down other women in the industry and was disheartened to see this conversation among fans:

“I’m like, ‘Why am I getting brought into this? I’m happy that they relate to my music … [but] I’m never happy tearing down another woman.”

While Moroney told the publication that she sympathized with fans upset, it wasn’t right to channel their anger into one artist being better than the other. Moroney also noted that if she were in Underwood’s shoes, being asked to perform at Trump’s inauguration, she’s unsure if she would accept.

“I come from a really big family, with each side of the [political] spectrum. And I’ve found that you can’t change anyone’s mind. The best thing I can do is love them. That’s what I want to give to my fans, too. My music is there, so hopefully, they can find comfort.”

While Moroney knows music can connect folks in unimaginable ways, she never pictured her music being used to unite people like this. Moroney would rather stick to dads coming up to her at shows praising her for bringing them closer to their daughters.

“I’ve had dads cry at meet-and-greets and say that they’re so grateful for my music. If they didn’t have my songs, they wouldn’t feel as close to their daughters.”

It’s no doubt that both Moroney and Underwood are the blonde bombshells of country music, and while Moroeny might be on the path toward having a career that’s both long and successful like Underwood, she is in no way trying to take her crown.

No bad blood here.
