Cody Johnson Says He’s “Playing With” A Potential Luke Combs Collaboration: “I Can Neither Confirm Nor Deny”

Music

COME ON WITH IT.

Now, that’s a collaboration that I’d have on repeat. Cody Johnson is teasing big things on the horizon for this year, and I can’t wait. Last year, Johnson released the deluxe edition of Leather, which was not your traditional deluxe record as it featured 13 new songs, creating a B-side of Leather.

On a recent chat with Audacy’s Katie Neal for an episode of Katie & Company, Johnson touched on what’s to come this year for him. Neal kicked off the conversation, telling Johnson she was so sad to have missed his two-night sold-out run at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Johnson touched on how cool of an experience that was, noting they sold out the arena “in the round,” meaning even the seats behind the stage were sold.

Neal then told Johnson that when he had Luke Combs on stage with him, she felt like it might be a bit of a breadcrumb. The two had something in the works, given he has spoken about wanting to collaborate with Combs in the past.

“Maybe…maybe. I’m going into the studio this year to go record a new album. There’s a certain song that I’m pretty certain. We’re just, we’re kind of playing with it.

We’re going back and forth with it, and it could be in the works. I can neither confirm nor deny.”

A new album and a possible duet on the horizon? HELL YEAH.

After Johnson pleaded the fifth, Neal commented that their energy together would make for a great song no matter the lyrical matter because of their energy together. She said that when Luke Combs came out for the encore during the Nashville show, their “Beer Never Broke My Heart” performance was electric.

Johnson told Neal that they had that song planned for weeks before the show, and Johnson was kicking himself a little bit that their potential duet wasn’t recorded because they would have debuted that.

“Oh, we knew it was going to be…I was like, ‘Hey dude, do you want to come out and do the encore with me?’ This was weeks before the show, and he was like, ‘Yeah, what are we gonna play?’ And I was like, ‘Well we should record that freaking duet. We could’ve done that, you know?’”

After some discussion, Johnson realized that “Beer Never Broke My Heart” was a no-brainer choice because they could burn it down.

“Let’s just go burn it down with ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart.’ It’s a massive song, and it’s fun. I promise you all of my fans know it. So it was a no-brainer.”

To say fans loved this moment was an understatement. Check it out.

Johnson’s promise of a new record and the potential of this collaboration coming to life has me jazzed up. It sounds like Johnson is confident it will happen and is having fun teasing fans, so I hope he’s not pulling our leg and does make his come to life.

A Cody Johnson and Luke Combs duet will RIP.
