Gavin Adcock Arrested In Wilson County, Tennessee

Music

Had the lead foot a little too heavy on the pedal.

Country music’s newest outlaw, Gavin Adcock, was arrested last night in Wilson County, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville, for reckless driving and an open container charge – but he wasn’t behind bars for long.

According to records from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Adcock was arrested at 11:15 PM last night and released on a $1,000 bond at 4:34 AM.

Gavin has yet to release a statement on his run-in with the law, and no further details were immediately available on what led to the arrest.

(One thing to note: In Tennessee, it’s legal for a passenger to have an open container in a vehicle – but not the driver).

Of course Adcock has gained quite the reputation for his wild onstage antics as he began pursuing a career in country music – but it’s not the first time that his hard-partying ways have landed him in hot water.

The Watkinsville, Georgia native played defensive tackle for the Georgia Southern Eagles, who back in 2021 had a rough start to the season after winning just 1 of their first 4 games (before ultimately finishing the season 3-9).

But it was ahead of their fourth game of the season against Louisiana that Adcock managed to get himself in a little bit of hot water.

The Georgia State football team has a tradition of riding to the stadium on gameday in yellow school buses, stopping around campus to pump everybody up for the game.

Well ahead of the game, Gavin decided to hop on top of the bus. As he recalls it:

“I get on top of the bus, and I’m surfing the bus driving down the road. And a bouncer I knew, I looked down and I saw him down there, it wasn’t planned at all, it just happened – he threw me a beer.

And I just took it down, slung it, and it went viral on Barstool the next day.”

Well Adcock played in the game (which ended up being their third loss of the season, but as he mentioned, the video of the scene quickly went viral. We even posted about the Georgia Southern player chugging a beer on top of the bus back in 2021 when it happened.

But obviously the team was having a rough season, and it wasn’t the kind of attention that the athletic department wanted on the team in the midst of a 1-3 record. So Adcock was suspended for the stunt, and forced to sit out the next game against Arkansas State. And the coach, Chad Lunsford, was also fired after the game.

Acdock would later issue an apology for his behavior:

“I want to reach out and express my deepest apology for my foolish actions on the bus this past Saturday. I want to apologize to players/coaches present and before me who have paved the way for this great program and institution.

What I did was very selfish and is not what we are about here at Georgia Southern. The coaching staff and institution does not condone that type of behavior. For the remainder of my time here I will do everything in my power to reassure my love and commitment to this amazing place!!”

Well as it turns out the remainder of his time there wouldn’t be very long – because after Adcock returned to play in the next game against Troy, he ended up leaving the team the following week, six games into his senior season.

It seems that he made the right career choice though, because Adcock has blown up recently and just this past weekend played two sold-out shows here at The Pinnacle in Nashville. And he’ll soon be hitting the road with Morgan Wallen to open for the country music superstar on his I’m The Problem stadium tour.

Maybe they can swap stories from their time behind bars while they’re out on the road.

Gavin Adock On His Friendship With John Daly

Though it’s not all that surprising that Gavin Adcock and John Daly are friends, we still wanted to know how that friendship came to be.

Gavinjoined the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast once again to talk about playing at the Rock The South festival this year (as well as his other upcoming tour dates), his rowdy shows, how he handles fans who get a little out of hand, his knack for songwriting and where he finds inspiration, opening for Morgan Wallen this summer, and much more.

One of the things that falls into the “much more” category was his friendship with the legendary golfer known as John Daly. The only insight we’ve really ever gotten – other than Daly attending one of Adcock’s concerts – was this video that the “Sober” singer posted back in September of last year:

So how did that crazy video featuring Gavin Adcock, John Daly and President Trump come to be?

As Gavin explained to us, he was playing at a charity golf scramble at the Old Hickory Country Club in Old Hickory, Tennessee (30 minutes from Nashville) and just so happened to be paired up with John Daly’s godson:

“I played in the Blue Otter Charity Golf Tournament and his godson – his name is Joe Cooley – he played on our team. And he’s the only reason we did any good. I’m a pretty good drinker… not a very good golfer, but I try. I think we took one of my shots the whole day during the scramble. Joe was just killing it.”

Side note: that’s the great thing about golf. Sometimes it’s not about how many strokes you take… it’s about how many beers you drink.

Anyways, Gavin Adcock said that after the round, Daly’s godson spotted the legendary golfer sitting up at the clubhouse and decided he’d introduce the country singer to the pro golfer. And they apparently hit it off, and that was all she wrote:

“After, we got some dinner and sat down and John Daly was over there. Joe was like, ‘Here’s John, come say what’s up. He’d love you.’ We talked a little bit, sat there, had a few drinks, and then I was going to tell him bye before I left. And he was like, ‘No, you gotta go get that guitar. It’s a MAGA guitar, and you’re gonna play it for me.’ There was kind of like a writer’s round going on up there.

I was like, ‘Alright, I’ll play a couple.’ So I played ‘A Cigarette’ cause John smokes cigarettes like they’re going out of style, and then I played ‘Run Your Mouth.’ He FaceTimed Trump, and Trump answered, and he brought the phone up there and it was just crazy.”

Pretty cool friendship origin story if you ask me.

Just goes to show you that life can come at you pretty fast. One minute you’re doing your best to hit a little white golf ball around the course for charity, and the next you’re playing some hits songs and FaceTiming the President of the United States… with John Daly holding the phone.

You can hear all about that and more in the latest episode of the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast:
