Music City Mayhem! Could 9-1-1’s Next Big Crossover Hit Nashville?

Music City Mayhem! Could 9-1-1’s Next Big Crossover Hit Nashville?

Television

Fall television is almost here!

Before you know it, your fall nights will be spent digging into the latest NCIS mystery or catching up with Morgan and company over at High Potential.

You should also be set for a double dose of 9-1-1, and the veteran procedural has added a new sibling to the universe in the form of 9-1-1: Nashville.

They have kept pretty mum on the new series, which has given it an air of mystery that not a lot of new shows are often afforded.

That could be a good thing with audiences who will have no choice but to check it out and see if it’s for them before automatically casting it aside because they’re not keen on the tagline or some other innocuous thing that comes with heavy early promotion.

But the flip side of that is having audiences tuned out because they have no idea what to expect.

There’s still plenty of time for the marketing campaign to swing into high gear, but one thing we can guarantee is that there WILL be a crossover between the OG and the new kid on the block.

Source? Just trust me!

But seriously, it makes sense for the series to overlap, especially in the early parts of the season when the show is getting its legs and figuring out what kind of 9-1-1 it wants to be.

You may be thinking, “But there was no overlap between 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star right away?” And you would be very correct!

Even though that crossover was only four or so years ago, television has changed drastically since then, especially on the broadcast front.

And ABC should work toward giving 9-1-1: Nashville a hot start.

(Disney/Ray Mickshaw)

By folding in a crossover early on, you’ll guarantee a large chunk of those watching 9-1-1 ahead of it will stick around to see how the two worlds overlap, with the hope that you’ll draw more people in that weren’t necessarily interested in checking out the series initially.

Now, the next biggest question would be what exactly does that crossover look like?

If you’ll remember, the OG and Lone Star involved select members of the 118 traveling to Texas to help their fellow firefighters with an out-of-control wildfire.

Now, it didn’t make a lot of sense for the 118 to drive 20-some hours to Austin, but it’s television, and you have to let some things slide. But they can’t get away with that twice!

The 118 definitely should not be driving across the whole country to help with a fire or disaster because of REALISM.

(Disney/Christopher Willard)

Instead, I think it would be a lot more fun to have one or more of the 118 vacationing in the Music City, thumping around Broadway trying to forget about what awaits them back in Los Angeles.

Then, all of a sudden, they’re thrust into the throes of a large-scale emergency that requires a set of skills that they possess.

One piece of news that dropped last week was the announcement that country music star Kane Brown will guest star, and he will be performing a concert during an episode.

Might Buck be at that concert when disaster strikes? Or have Athena and the kids ventured out to the East Coast for a little getaway?

I don’t want to bring up the depressing elephant in the room that is Bobby Nash. Still, it’s safe to assume that 9-1-1 Season 9 will continue where the previous season left off and continue to explore the characters dealing with the grief of losing their husband, stepfather, captain, and friend.

It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to return to the series after a brief time jump and see some of the characters looking to get out of the city for a bit.

And there doesn’t always need to be a finite connection for a crossover to work.

We don’t need to discover Jessica Capshaw’s character is an old friend of Maddie’s, or Chris O’Donnell’s Captain Don Shape, and Eddie once met when Don was working the rodeo circuit in El Paso.

(Okay, saying that out loud makes me want to see that, actually!)

But, no! Let this be a spontaneous meeting of two worlds coming together and helping out the city of Nashville in a moment of need, and opening the portal through which future crossovers could happen.

9-1-1: Nashville will, of course, need to stand out on its own, but when you expand a television universe, it’s normal and natural for there to be some overlapping.

And a wrong place, right time situation with one of our OG favorites could be a lot of fun for older fans and newer fans of the latest import, instead of throwing in a forced character backstory connection.

Alright, 9-1-1 fans, how are we feeling about a potential crossover?

Does the possibility get you more or less excited about the arrival of 9-1-1: Nashville?

As always, take your thoughts down to the comments so we can discuss and speculate together. We love to hear from you guys!
