Smokey Robinson’s sex assault cases under review by DA’s office – NBC Los Angeles

California

Sexual assault allegations against Smokey Robinson are now under review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, NBC4 Investigates learned Wednesday.

The District Attorney’s Office confirmed with NBC4 Investigates that it is currently examining the report filed by the LA County Sheriff’s Department before deciding whether to officially file charges against the singer.

The special victims bureau of the LA County Sheriff’s Department turned over the cases to the District Attorney’s Office after it completed its own investigation into the accusations made by the four former employees of the Motown legend and his wife Frances Robinson.

The three women were identified as housekeepers who worked for the couple at their Chatsworth home. Jane Doe No. 4 was employed by the couple as Frances Robinson’s personal assistant, cook and hairdresser.

The women filed a complaint in May, alleging “repeated sexual assaults and sexual harassments” at the Robinson residence and other locations.

The singer denied the claims and countersued the four women and their attorneys, alleging defamation and extortion while seeking at least $500 million.

In 2015, a sexual assault allegation was made against Robinson, but the DA’s Office declined to file official charges against him due to insufficient evidence following an investigation by the sheriff’s department.

Robinson is an iconic American soul singer who has had a star-studded career spanning more than 70 years.

The recording, producing and songwriting legend was a pioneer for Motown Records, founding the vocal group the Miracles in the 1950s and later releasing albums as a solo artist and working as a record executive for the label. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
