When Ghosts first started, we knew that we would likely, eventually, have to say goodbye to one of the Main 8.
That doesn’t mean we want to, but the problem is, the story has to go on, and it has to feel logical and rewarding.
Ghosts Season 5 is getting closer to having someone “sucked off,” and I’m not sure how I feel about that happening.

Flower and Trevor Continue to Grow as People
From the start, the spirits at Woodstone Manor have wanted to move on — or get “sucked off” as they like to call it on Ghosts.
The ghostly world they’re in is a purgatory for them, giving them a chance to learn to be better people so they can move on to whatever heaven there is in this universe.
Sure, they can go to hell, but they’re not terrible people. They were selfish while living, but there is clearly room for improvement.
Otherwise, wouldn’t they have gone straight to hell in the first place?

I digress. The aim for the spirits is to move on, and that’s, arguably, what the entire series is about.
Somewhere along the lines, the series seems to have forgotten about this, and it was only during the Ghosts Season 5 Premiere that they all seemed to fully remember their goal.
Carol got to move on after her sacrifice for Pete, and now it’s time for other characters to really think about their futures.
Most specifically, it looks like it’s time for Flower and Trevor to get the growth they need to move on.
During the Ghosts Season 5 Midseason Premiere, both Flower and Trevor got time to shine, and they did it in a completely unselfish way.

It turns out that some of Flower’s former cult family members have become ghosts as well, and Bruce was one of them.
Rather than rejoin the cult, Flower realized that she could expose Bruce.
This wasn’t even for her personal gain; she wanted to do it for the other members of this “family.”
Meanwhile, Trevor realized that he actually liked Patience, accepting and liking the side of her that was ready to support him in whatever he wanted to do.
After years of focusing on looks and status, Trevor surprised himself by putting Patience first and seeing what a real relationship — what real love — means.

For both of these characters, the moments were unexpected and involved other people.
Before, the “acts of good” the characters have done have had selfish undertones, with the aim of being sucked off, but that’s not going to allow them to move on.
They need to do good things for the sake of doing good things, and that’s what Flower and Trevor have shown that they can do.
Moving On Is Great for the Ghosts — But It Means Losing Characters
Their goal has always been to move on, and as much as we love seeing them on our screens, we want a positive closure for them.

When we thought for sure that Flower had moved on at the start of Ghosts Season 4, there was an element of sadness to it.
At the same time, there was that positive feeling that Flower got to do something that all of them wanted to do — she reached the end of her life as a spirit and proved that she is a good person.
Then it turned out that she was just stuck in a well. While we cheered that Flower was back, it also brought an element of sadness for her.
At the same time, I was happy, especially since it meant we could see Flower go when it really happened.
This is where I end up with mixed feelings, because from the start, we’ve wanted the Main 8 ghosts to be able to move on.

I want to see more of Flower, and I want to see more of Pete, Sass, Alberta, and all of the other spirits in the house.
Losing them is going to hurt because one of the family members has gone. I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to any of them, knowing that there’s at least going to be a sixth season.
That being said, I’m ready to see one of the Main 8 move on and prove that the time Sam has spent working with them and giving in to their demands has been worth it.
However, when it happens, it has to be on screen.
I don’t mind if it’s something like the UK version of Ghosts, which saw Mary suddenly be surrounded by a light. She had no idea what was happening, and suddenly, she was gone.

That surprise and the relief that it’s happened are what are important to show on the screen.
We know there isn’t time for a long goodbye, based on how other spirits have left, but there needs to be something.
So, as much as I know that the show is gearing up to potentially write out one of the Main 8 spirits, I’m not quite ready for it.
I just know, deep down, that it needs to happen for that feeling of closure and satisfaction.
Love this show? We do too — and we want to keep writing about it.
Your comment or share can help make sure we get to. That’s the magic of supporting indie media. So, tell me, are you getting worried about someone getting sucked off? Who do you think it will be?
