Today’s round-up of literary headlines includes the TV adaptation of Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward series, the winners of the Barnes & Noble Children’s & YA Awards, Book Threads drama, and more.

Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward Series is Getting a TV Adaptation

Earlier this year, Brandon Sanderson signed a deal with Apple TV for adaptation rights to the books set in the Cosmere universe: the Mistborn series is being made into movies, and the Stormlight Archive series is being adapted for TV. Now, he’s announced that the Skyward series, YA novels set in the Cytoverse universe, is being adapted for TV as well. This time, he’s working with Tomorrow Studios, which produced Netflix’s One Piece live-action show. Sanderson will be writing the pilot. SFF books like Sanderson’s require a big budget, so it’s a gamble for studios. We’ll see if Sanderson’s fanbase translates to high viewership!

Here are the Winners of the Barnes & Noble Children’s & YA Book Awards

Barnes & Noble is operating in its own awards season, because it just announced the winners of their Children’s & YA Book Awards for books published in 2025. The overall winner is The School for Thieves by Peter Burns, which is the first time I’ve heard about it. The other two winners I’ve seen more buzz about: the picture book winner is Broken by X. Fang, and the young adult winner is The Secret Astronomers by Jessica Walker. The Secret Astronomer has an interesting format, playing out in notes between two students in an astrophysics textbook.

Book Threads Drama is Unparalleled

I’ve been on the bookish internet long enough to remember the highs and lows of Book Twitter. Now, its replacement seems to be Book Threads. In New York Magazine’s Book Gossip newsletter, Jasmine Vojdani discusses why Book Threads is so unhinged—and whether the discourse it generates matters. Threads is great at showing you content that enrages you, but publicists disagree about whether the discussions there have much of an influence on sales. Personally, I rarely see Book Threads controversy amount to real consequences, unless it taps into something readers are already concerned about.
