Back in 2005, Ice Cube starred opposite Nia Long for freewheeling family comedy ‘Are We There Yet?’ It was a hit, swiftly followed by 2007 sequel ‘Are We Done Yet?,’ which moved the characters of Nick (Cube) and (Suzanne) into home ownership.

Now, nearly 20 years after that second entry, Deadline brings word that Cube and Long will be back for a third, ‘Are They Gone Yet?’

Are They Gone Yet?

While it sounds like the premise for a horror movie, it’ll actually see the couple facing the challenges of being grandparents.

In the first movie, bachelor Nick has to adjust his lifestyle for his crush Suzanne when he agrees to transport her kids Lindsey (Aleisha Allen) and Kevin (Philip Daniel Bolden) to their grandmother’s house in his prized Lincoln Navigator.

The sequel sees the family moving to the suburbs as Nick clashes with their contractor Chuck (John C. McGinley).

In this new installment, written by Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana, Nick faces his biggest challenge yet… grandkids.

Here’s what Cube had to say about the third movie:

“We built something special with this franchise. Audiences grew up with Nick Persons, and now Nick’s got grandkids. Time flies. Partnering with Skydance to bring this story to a new generation is exactly the kind of move CubeVision was built for, and I am excited for the new partnership.”
