With 2020 coming to a close, we are ending the year much differently than anyone could have ever anticipated.
Christmas time is usually filled with many traditions and celebrations, but thanks to the global pandemic and gathering restrictions, a lot of us are sacrificing our fun for the health and safety of our loved ones. Whether that means no family gatherings or no beer pong, this Christmas looks different for everyone.
Although this might not be exactly how we had hoped to spend the holidays, queen of country music, Dolly Parton, has the perfect Christmas anthem for such a strange year.
“Hard Candy Christmas” was recorded by Dolly in 1982 for her role in the movie The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, but it just makes sense to embrace this song in a year like 2020. This melancholy yet hopeful tune may just be the cure to Christmas this year.
“Maybe I’ll sleep real late
Maybe I’ll lose some weight
Maybe I’ll clear my junk
Maybe I’ll just get drunk on apple wine
Me, I’ll be just
Fine and dandy
Lord, it’s like a hard candy Christmas
I’m barely getting through tomorrow
But still I won’t let
Sorrow bring me way down”
“Hard Candy Christmas”
And of course, the scene from the movie as well.
