Photos: Looking back at 2020, via the lens of staff photographer Brittany Murray

Saying 2020 has been a difficult year is almost cliche now, which is sad.

For far too many people, 2020 has truly been their worst year. For others, 2020 has been a minor inconvenience and shown that we all should be thankful for what we have.

Personally, I am thankful for many things, one of which being my career. I’ve been a photojournalist for 22 years and I can honestly say that 99 out of 100 days I love it, a pretty good percentage by any standards.

Documenting 2020 has been a roller coaster.

At the beginning of COVID-19 in the spring, most of my images had no people. By summer, my images had too many people but the message outweighed the risk.

Since summer, there seems to be a false sense of security and normalcy. Too many people are choosing to ignore common sense rules in an age of pandemic.

Knock on wood, I have not contracted the disease yet.

As the year winds down and I look back at my images from 2020, I’m hopeful that the upcoming year brings successful implementation of the vaccine and change on the horizon.
