Sixty two years ago today, country music icon George Jones released the song that would go on to be the first #1 single of his legendary career.

Written by J. P. Richardson, better known as the Big Bopper, “White Lightning” was released on February 9th, 1959, and by April 13th, it had topped the charts.

The song has since been covered by Waylon Jennings, Glen Campbell, Hank Jr., Joe Diffie and more.
