Travis Tritt Praises Texas Artists For Doing It Their Own Way: “I Suspect I Was Actually Born In Texas”

Music

According to his birth certificate, Travis Tritt was on February 9th, 1963, in Marietta, Georgia.

Although, he’s not so sure…

In a recent tweet, Travis suspected that he might actually be a Texan.

“Texans and especially Texas musicians have always had an independent streak that insisted on doing things their own way.

Sometimes, I suspect that I was actually born in Texas and my birth certificate is a lie.”

It’s obviously a joke, but the larger point stands. Artists out in Texas have been, and continue to be, WAY more independent than their mainstream (Nashville) counterparts.

Even the mainstream country artists that have come from Texas: Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Cody Johnson, Parker McCollum…they’ve all made (or in the case of Parker still making) a name for themselves doing it their own way.

Even the great George Strait, a legendary Texan, turned down the Grand Ole Opry. It’s the kind of honor most country artists would kill for, but because he lived in Texas and didn’t want to be required to fulfill his performance obligations as a member, he respectfully declined. How is that for doing it your own way?

And then if you head down to Texas now, you have artists like Whiskey Myers and Cody Jinks who are racking up Gold and Platinum singles without an ounce of radio play. Doing it their own way is an understatement for them.

So yeah, while Travis Tritt might’ve been born in Georgia, he’s sure carrying the Texas spirit.

His upcoming album, featuring his new single “Smoke In A Bar,” is set to drop on May 7th.

“If you don’t like the way I’m livin’… you just leave this long-haired country boy alone.”
