Intense fire burns 2-story Shadow Hills home

California

Los Angeles firefighters beat back the flames late Tuesday at a two-story Shadow Hills home well-involved in fire that threatened to spread to the surrounding brush.

A total of 61 firefighters attacked the blaze from the ground and the air on the 8600 block of La Tuna Canyon Road, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart, and after battling the fire for 59 minutes, a knockdown was declared just before 9 p.m.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department and Verdugo Fire Agency helped fight the blaze at the 3,000-square-foot hillside home, Stewart said.

In addition to ground crews attacking the structure fire, LAFD water-dropping helicopters concentrated on preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby brush, she said.

All of the homes residents were safe and accounted for when firefighters arrived, though one person was being evaluated to determine whether they needed treatment, Stewart said.

Crews remained on scene into Tuesday night to extinguish hot spots.

The cause of the fire and the estimated amount in damage to the home were under investigation.
