WHISKEY RIFF MADNESS 2021: And The Winner Is…

Music

Well that’s it, folks.

After 6 days of voting and nearly 250,000 votes cast, Whiskey Riff Madness 2021: 90’s Country Edition has come to an end.

But before we get to the winner, let’s take a look back at how we got here.

We started with 64 of the absolute best songs of 90’s. Could we include every great song from the 90’s? Of course not. Were there some that we had to leave out that could have (maybe even should have) made the tournament? Definitely.

But from those 64 songs, you voted and narrowed it down to two finalists.

Alan Jackson‘s “Chattahoochee” sailed through matchups with Chely Wright’s “Shut Up and Drive,” Tracy Lawrence’s classic “Time Marches On,” and the Brooks & Dunn hit “My Maria,” then won a shootout with Joe Diffie’s “John Deere Green,” and ultimately knocked out Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” to find itself competing for the top spot.

And on the other side of the bracket we had George Strait‘s “Check Yes or No,” which defeated Bryan White’s “Someone Else’s Star,” John Anderson’s “Straight Tequila Night,” Tim McGraw’s “Don’t Take the Girl,” Joe Diffie’s “Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die),” and finally, took down Garth’s “Friends in Low Places” to round out the championship matchup.

A 90’s country championship matchup featuring Alan Jackson vs. George Strait? Seems about right to me.

Well you, our great Whiskey Riff readers voted, and at the end of the day, the winner was…

“Chattahoochee”

That’s right – by a vote of 58% to 42%, Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee” is the winner of our 90’s Country Edition of Whiskey Riff Madness.

But whether your favorite song came out on top or not, one thing’s definitely clear: People are still just as passionate about 90’s country as they ever were. The conversations on social media, the people bashing the songs we left out or talking about the songs that you thought were seeded too low or too high – you guys really love your 90’s country.

Which is great, because so do we.

So thanks to everybody who participated, shared, and discussed the tournament on social media. We had a lot of fun with this one, so maybe it’s something we should do more often and not just during March Madness.

But now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to have this one on repeat all day.
