Coronavirus: L.A. County’s progress continues; hospitalizations down 93% with 479 new cases and 53 new deaths, April 7

Los Angeles public health officials reported 479 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 1,223,174 as of Wednesday, April 7.

Officials said there were 53 new deaths linked to the coronavirus, for a total 23,340 deaths since tracking began.

A total of 5,254,583 vaccinations have been administered in the county as of Tuesday.

There were 16 fewer hospitalization reported since Tuesday, reducing the official count of hospitalizations to 552. That’s a 93.8% decrease of hospitalizations from the Jan. 5 high of 8,915.

Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
