Coronavirus tracker: California reported 2,547 new cases and 131 new deaths as of April 8

According to the end-of-day totals from California public health websites Thursday, April 8, there were 2,547 new cases of the coronavirus reported statewide, bringing the total number of cases there have been to 3,664,679.

There were 131 new deaths reported Thursday, for a total of 59,697 people in California who have died from the virus.

The state reported 2,228 people in hospitals on Thursday with coronavirus-related illness. That’s 84 fewer patients than Wednesday.

California has administered 21.6 million shots since Dec. 15, of which 8.2 million people, or 20.5% of the state, are fully vaccinated. Two of the three vaccine options out there require two doses.
