Flatland Cavalry Honors Turnpike Troubadours During Soundcheck With Cover Of “Empty As A Drum”

Music

Does it get any better than Flatland Cavalry and the Turnpike Troubadours?

I think not…

And recently, Flatland paid homage to Turnpike with a little cover of “Empty As A Drum” during their soundcheck at the Choctaw Casino Grand Theater in Durant, Oklahoma

The original song is from Turnpike’s incredible 2012 record Goodbye Normal Street. It’s still my favorite out of their five studio albums, which are all absolutely amazing in their own right. But, if I had to choose, I’m going with that one.

Flatland frontman Cleto Cordero treated us all to a video on Twitter of him playing the track acoustically before their show in the home state of the Turnpike Troubadours Saturday night.

Of course, we’re all anxiously awaiting the return of Evan Felker and his band, but until that day comes when he’s good and ready, I’ll take this as an alternative any time.

Because “when in Oklahoma,” as the caption reads, playing Turnpike just seems right.

It’ll just about bring a tear to your eye:
