That’s that for the second round of our George Strait Number Ones voting.
After thousands of votes have been cast so far, we finally have our Sweet Sixteen.
And I’ve gotta be honest: Most of the matchups in the last round weren’t even close.
We had “Blue Clear Sky” getting bounced by “I Can Still Make Cheyenne,” which got a nice 69% of the vote. And “The Best Day” managed to get 33% of the vote, but still got beat handily by “Run.”
And those were two of the closer matchups.
I’m talking margins of victory like “Troubadour” getting 80% of the vote against “It Just Comes Natural” – and Troubadour wasn’t even a number one.
But the biggest victory came from “Carrying Your Love With Me,” which beat “Today My World Slipped Away” with an astounding 91% of the vote.
Seems like these matchups were too easy for y’all.
Well, most of them. There were two that came down to the wire: “She’ll Leave You With a Smile” hung in there all day, before eventually losing to “Give It Away” by around 5%.
And the closest battle of the day was between “Baby Blue” and “Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye,” with “Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye” sneaking through by less than 2%.
So let’s see if this next round is any tougher.
