Spectators kept their eyes on the skies at the Wings Over Camarillo airshow on Saturday, Aug. 21, to see thrilling airplane stunts over Camarillo Airport.
Among the 11 specialty stunt maneuvers fans watched for included barrel and loop rolls, the knife-edge pass, the mirror pass, the tailslide, the wingover and the Cuban — a loop and then a half-roll maneuver that forms a figure-8 pattern and usually seen with smoke trails.
Before the aerial display began around noon, event-goers took in various displays on the ground including aircraft, a classic car show and looking in on a World War II Living History presentation, the “82nd Airborne 505th Reenactment Camp.” A “STEM Pavilion” invited all ages to check out robotics and drones in action and hands-on activities that involve science, technology, engineering and math.
A perennial highlight of the airshow is the “Veterans Hangar” where the public gets a chance to meet-and-greet and hear stories from veteran pilots, mechanics and other service members who served during World War II, the Korean War and in Vietnam.
Wings Over Camarillo continues on Sunday at 9 a.m. with air demonstrations beginning at noon. Tickets are for sale by advanced purchase from the website (no tickets sold at the door).
