A ribbon-cutting ceremony welcomed the new, state-of-the-art Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on Golden Valley Road on Monday, Oct. 18.

Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda, Mayor Pro Tem Laurene Weste and City Councilmembers Jason Gibbs, Marsha McLean and Cameron Smyth invited the public to watch the ceremony live on the city’s Facebook page or watch later on the city’s YouTube channel.

The dignitaries attending the event included Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Captain Justin Diez, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Congressman Mike Garcia, State Senator Scott Wilk and Assemblymembers Tom Lackey and Suzette Martinez Valladares.

The new station sits on a 12-acre site between Centre Pointe and Robert C. Lee parkways. The groundbreaking was held in 2018 for the facility. It is replacing the about 50-year-old current station, of 25,100 square feet, on Magic Mountain Parkway, with a variety of features that 46,481 square feet will soon provide.

The centrally-located station has a 9-1-1 dispatch center, a heliport, a vehicle maintenance facility and fueling station and a communications tower. The station’s construction is a collaboration between the city of Santa Clarita and Los Angeles County Fifth District.

The total cost of the project, excluding the land, is $68,886,449, according to officials.

Personnel are expected to move into the building in about a month.

The ceremony is available to watch on the city’s YouTube channel here: bit.ly/3p4Lme7
