Start Your Friday Night With Some Laughs Courtesy Of Norm Macdonald and Kenny Rogers

Music

First and foremost, Kenny Rogers was the man.

Back in the day, there was no one that could compete in the coolness category with him. The beard, the voice, the suave album covers, I mean the guy was in a league of his own.

Just look at this man.

Kenny Rogers country music

Well, on this day in 1979, Kenny Rogers album Kenny was Number 1 on the charts and the big single from it was “Coward Of The County,” which reminded me of a video I saw a little bit ago…

A video that made me laugh literally uncontrollably.

Years ago, the great Norm Macdonald (RIP) was a guest on the Adam Carolla Show and somehow or another the subject of two Kenny Rogers songs came up and the whole crew decided to break down the lyrics of “Ruby Don’t Take Your Love To Town” (which was originally a Waylon Jennings song before Kenny Rogers released a version in 1969) and the previously mentioned “Coward Of The County”.

Both of these songs are well known to be quite dark, one about a paralyzed veteran who’s woman is cheating on him because he can’t satisfy her and the other about a man who’s wife is sexually assaulted by a group of three brothers.

But man, listening to Norm and Adam go back and forth about the darkness is just so good.

Even though plenty of jokes are made, at the end Adam says “I got to tell you, Kenny Rogers runs a lot deeper than we give him credit for.”

Ain’t that the truth.

RIP Kenny and Norm, two absolute legends.

Now get your Friday night started with some laughs.
