Kylie Frey and Bri Bagwell Take On ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’

Music

Kylie Frey and Bri Bagwell have teamed up to bring a new sound to Cyndi Lauper’s 80s hit “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Their version is Western take on the pop classic, complete with pedal steel and fiddle. The upbeat anthem is stripped of its familiar synthesizers and replaced with plenty of Texas twang.

The duo are stalwarts of the Texas Red Dirt scene, one that is typically oversaturated with male acts. Both Frey and Bagwell have long shared stages with regional heavyweights including Randy Rogers, Cody Johnson and Pat Green. Frey says she’s grateful for the chance to collaborate with another of the scene’s leading ladies.

“Happy to have a second version of this song out elevating the iconic anthem by two females coming together,” Frey said in a statement. “It’s icing on the cake having my friend Bri be part of this.”

The track has already gained a lot of steam on Texas country radio. “We had a blast recording this song, and the response so far has been incredible,” Bagwell said. “So thankful that Kylie asked me to be a part of this country twist on a legendary tune.”
