Carrie Underwood has a new single out today, “Ghost Story”.
She’d been teasing new music in the lead-up to the release, and many fans were wondering if CU7 was on the way soon. It looks like Carrie is just releasing this one song for now, as she’s gearing up for a new run for her Las Vegas residency, Reflection.
Written by Josh Kear, Hillary Lindsey and David Garcia, Carrie says that this new song is different take on revenge song:
“[It’s] something I love to sing about. Instead of smashing headlights, this scorned lover is letting her ex know that she will continue to haunt him no matter how hard he tries to forget her.”
The track definitely has a cinematic element to it, and seems like it will fit right into her show in Las Vegas:
“I have always loved performing songs that tell a story and inspire some kind of cinematic imagery when you hear them, and that is definitely true of ‘Ghost Story.’
It creates a mood and a vibe that is different than anything else I’ve recorded before.”
Her last true studio album, Cry Pretty, was released way back in 2018, in addition to a Christmas album, My Gift, in 2020, and her aforementioned 2021 Gospel album (one of my favorite’s of the year), My Savior.
So, for now, unfortunately, there’s no news on CU7, Carrie fans.
But, there is a brand new revenge song from her that’s likely the start of something coming at some point this year:
