An excessive heat warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Antelope Valley for Tuesday, Aug. 23, while the inland valleys of Los Angeles County also will be hot.
The heat warning will take effect on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. and end around 10 p.m.
Lancaster and Palmdale are expected to see temperatures from 95 degrees to 108 degrees, while highs in the inland valleys Tuesday will be between 95 degrees and 100 degrees, the NWS is forecasting.
Several Antelope Valley cooling centers will be open:
• Lancaster Library, 601 W Lancaster Blvd, Lancaster, CA 93534. Tuesday-Wednesday, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
• Fox Field Airport, 4555 W. Ave. G, Lancaster, CA 93536. Monday-Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Antelope Valley Senior Center, 777 W. Jackman Street, Lancaster, CA 93534. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Palmdale City Library, 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., Palmdale, CA 93550. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
• Quartz Hill Library, 5040 West Avenue M-2, Quartz Hill, CA 93536. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
